How do I get Google Analytics to ignore the tracking in my Page URLs?

Hi there

when we send out bulk marketing emails we use tracking at the end of our page URLs so we can track how has opened and clicked on the email.

e.g.

/membersonly/events/display.aspx?id=5930

GA is assuming that these are all different pages so any traffic coming from an emailer is all being recorded as separate pages.

How do I get GA to ignore the tracking part of the URL?

Many thanks

In the Admin for that View, select View Settings, then enter the id parameter (and any others you want to strip out) into the Exclude URL Query Parameters field.

Hi Mike

Thanks for this so just to check I would enter ?id= to exclude all tracking?

Hi Nina,

You only need to enter 'id' ion the 'exclude query parameter field'.

So will this make GA add any visits to

/membersonly/events/display.aspx?id=5930

to /membersonly/events/display.aspx

or does it just not count any visits to /membersonly/events/display.aspx?id=5930

It does exactly what you want -- records the page without the ?id=#### portion.
