Then then the step for checkoutSmiley Sadfunnel url: /checkout/onepage)

I have my goal setup in this url:http://www.citychemical.com/checkout/onepage/success

Hi :-)
If you are using regular expression as match type..
homepage should be ^/$ or it will match to all other pages as they all start with a forward slash
the following pages are all going to match on /checkout/

Does the destination url or other steps have any parameters appended to the urls?
If not.. then i would edit the destination url to ^/checkout/onepage/success$

and steps 2 & 3 to the following ^/checkout/cart$ and ^/checkout/onepage$

Thanks for the response.

Suppose I would like match all other pages including home page.

Then my structure is right?

My question is I am seeing if 2 people or whatever no is entering the checkout process is converting all no dropout happens in any stage. Is my funnel working that good?

Given enough data, a 100% conversion rate is highly unlikely

If i do not use regular expression but only use 'equals' to in the goal destination url does it work in my structured way?

It seems that in case of funnel set up we have to use regular expression compulsory otherwise it will not be set up correctly?

No, you don't have to use a regex, it depends what you are trying to match to
You just have to keep in mind that you cant mix the match types throughout the funnel steps

If you state match type is regex then you must use regex for every funnel step too

or exact match for each step and so on

Usually i have a View created just for testing.
I then exclude my visits from the normal reporting View(s) but not the test View.
This allows me to then test things like filters, goals, funnels and so on, without messing up my data in my non testing Views.

So as i previously stated below if i used exact match as the destination goal url instead of regex like exact http://www.citychemical.com/checkout/onepage/success does my funnel will work as intended?

have setup a funnel with 3 steps:

Users visted home page

users added something in cart url:http://www.citychemical.com/checkout/cart

Then proceed to next step checkout : url http://www.citychemical.com/checkout/onepage

Then the last step buy complete checkout and buy

url:http://www.citychemical.com/checkout/onepage/success

Now in funnel I have put first step when users visted home page (funnel url: /)

Then when added something in cart (funnel url: /checkout/cart)

Then then the step for checkoutSmiley Sadfunnel url: /checkout/onepage)

It should work as expected, unless you have a filter rewriting/altering the Request URI's applied to the View,

in which case you should be setting the goal steps to match how the urls are rewritten/altered by the filter.

eg if you have a filter added to prepend the hostname to request uri..

then the homepage would probably appear in the reports as similar to www.domainname.com/ rather than just /

also having a default page entered in the View Settings when one isn't required will also change how the homepage appears in the reports which will also mean editing your goal step to match how it appears in the pageview report

eta. . quick tip for testing your match types and urls

go to the Behaviour > Site Content > All page report

Click the Advanced search link just above the table.

and then apply the inline filter Include > Pages > Change type test between Matching RegExp or Exactly Matching etc
and see what results to the match in the table below after you apply it.
