Google tag manager to track PDF events when .pdf is not recognized as page URL.

Hello Guys,

We have 1000's of pdf documents in our website and are as downloads. Hence we cant use the page URL to understand the number of .pdf file downloads or views. I created a tag in google tag manager with GA event and tied with the GA account and named the event category, action and label. The tag is set to fire when the new URL variable contains .pdf in it.

The tags are firing only when the page URL has .pdf, since the pdf files are downloadable, google dont see them as page URL, hence the tags are not firing.

I currently dont want to do the javascript coding for this and would like to find a solution in GTM.

How can I fire the tag only when the PDF is downloaded, without any js coding.

Thanks,

Navi

You can only track the start of downloading but not the end. To do that try to use {{Click URL}} contains .pdf or even better ends with .pdf
