Google analytics suddenly stopped tracking

Hi

My analytics has recently stopped recording traffic to my site. I have gone from an average of 100 per day, to a sudden drop of 2,3 sometimes 0.

I have checked the tracking code, which seemed fine - but reloaded it just in case. There have been no changes to Analyitics, or filters applied and the only changes to the site have been to install Twitter and Facebook ad-tracking codes.

Google Tag Assistant says:

'No HTTP response detected' / 'Missing analytics.js script'

I am really at a loss as to what has gone wrong.

Regards,

Lewis

Hi Lewis,

Your tracking seems to be OK now, did you add any filters recently?

Hi Lewis,
According to Google If Missing JS script then best solution is

"Ensure that your Google Analytics script contains the full request to google-analytics.com. The script on your page should match the script that is generated in your account."

Missing HTTP Response

Recommended Action: Reinstall the Google Analytics snippet by removing the current iteration, copy a new version from the Analytics interface, and insert that version into the site.

Thanks

Hi Santosh,

We did this yesterday, but unfortunately has not fixed the problem.

Hi Lewis,

The problem is in the Mailchimp goal tracking code, there is a js error in it:

var = {'settings':{'uuid':'062a0a9752ef41da640ea72c2','dc':'us7'}};

Should be:

var $mcGoal = {'settings':{'uuid':'062a0a9752ef41da640ea72c2','dc':'us7'}};

Let me know if this resolves the issue.

Hi Arnold,

There has been an average of 11 sessions per day over the last five days since the Mailchimp error was identified; whereas from Jan '16 we have averaged 112 sessions per day to mid-April just before it dropped, so it still looks as though there is a problem.

Regards,

Lewis

Lewis I think you should go back to the basics and see what happens, remove the Mail Chimp code altogether leaving only yht GA code, if GA starts to work then you know the issue is with the Mail Chimp code. I am not familiar with Mail Chimp so I can not tell if the implementation is correct or not, however in order to trouble shoot the issue eliminate the Mail Chimp and see if GA starts to work. Again since not familiar with Mail Chimp it seems that it should be it own script and not combined with GA but just a guess.

I have had the same issue on 3 of our sites (2 on Wordpress). One issue was due to a theme update that added a field in the theme settings for the GA tracking code and Google Analytics was trying to pull from that blank field over the code we had previously put in the header of the site. With another site, it seems as though the tracking code just disappeared - very bizarre - but adding it back in has worked. What is weird is that it was tracking a few visitors a day! Almost like it was tracking some, but not all. When I went into the Analytics Admin > Property Tracking Code, it would say that the site had received traffic in the last 48 hours, but that there were 0 active users (even though multiple people were on the site, and I sent test traffic). I've downloaded the chrome plugin called Google Tag Assistant to easily check if a tracking code is working.
