Google Analytics with WWW and Webmaster without
OK so Google webmaster askes you now to add variants of your website so I had like 4 for the same site but I opened my online store and the traffic was goign the roof, like over a thousand hits per day. I have now removed the variants and is back to normal around 78 today so far. These varfiants must be duplicating my numbers? No way a new store has over 3K hits in four days.
Can anyone shed some light on this.
I have removed the variants from webmaster tools just now as the nubers were just unrealistic.

Hi Lesley :-)
I have no knowledge of your particular situation or setup however usually you would claim and verify www and non www version of a website. If you have https then you would usually do the same with that too and claim both versions.
The preferred domain would be configured in in the search console settings (eg which one should be indexed - www or non-www)
Configure/setup the site appropriate as well (via a 301 domain redirect or another method).
And then the preferred domain would be linked to a GA Property configured for the same domain in GA.
GA does not track the data from Google Search Console.. it is imported into GA from Google Search Console once the two are linked.
For further assistance with Search Console questions and issues, the best place to ask and get help is on the Webmaster Central Help Forum https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters
