Events triggering unexpectedly

I've noticed that under Behaviour > Events > Overview, GA is tracking downloads and outbound links.

As far as I know we haven't set-up Event tracking for the website, so is this something that GA does automatically?

I think Event tracking would be useful for us. However, what do we need to do to make this work?

I read an article online which seemed to suggest that for things like downloads and link clinks, we just need to add additional code to the links we add; however GA's help articles suggest we need to amend the code for each page?

Events are not configured inside of GA they use UTM parameters which get added to hyperlinks on your web pages, but I would not complain those are excelent events to track. You dont need to admend the GA code for each page just the links by adding UTM code to hem. Events and Campaigns are a lot alike in that respect.
