Events report is empty

Hi all!

We have created a couple of universal analytics properties a month ago. Event hits sent via the GET query have been displayed in events report but now it is empty despite the fact that real-time statistic keeps tracking all the events. We've tried to sent events using hit builder service: https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/hit-builder/, but it didn't work out, there are a lot of events in real-time statistic, events report is still empty.

Have anyone run into the same issue?

Has it been more than 24 hrs?

Actually yes. We've created new properties more than a month ago and we have been getting statistics for a week when reports stopped displaying any events. Now reports say there wasn't any events since that moment, but the real time statistics keeps working though.

Hi,
Possible reason:

You might be seeing a yellow note just below the date selector:
This report has been filtered to include only data where there are values for "Event Category" dimension.

Best Regards,
GA Guru.

'Star' or 'Accept as Solution' if it helped.

Thanks for your answer. You're right, there is a yellow note saying results have been filtered, but the thing is all the events were sent during this period have parameter "event category". Nevertheless these events aren't shown in report.

Hi,

I guess you are using GTM.

IMPORTANT CODING TIP: Make sure there are values for every event Category, Action and Label logged! NEVER let them be empty! Do NOT assume a default value, FORCE one to be used.

please refer: http://help.analyticsedge.com/googleanalytics/misunderstood-metrics-events/

Also You can easily debug on the website with GA debugger for event details being sent:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jnkmfdileelhofjcijamephohjechhna

You can check in chrome, console tab with 'Preserve log' turned ON.

Best Regards,
GA Guru.

Hi Ga Guru,

I have also encountered this issues on multiple properties but couldn't figure out the cause so far. Nor is this related to a specific event category or any other metrics. Though, I am certain that the GTM setup is correct. At least regarding event categories and actions since some labels or values I flush (set to undefined) if not provided to prevent mixing of different events.

I have tried to investigate with the query explorer by using filter such as:

  • Containing only spaces: ga:eventCategory=~^\s+$,ga:eventAction=~^\s+$,ga:eventLabel=~^\s+$
  • Empty: ga:eventCategory=~^$,ga:eventAction=~^$,ga:eventLabel=~^$
  • Empty (inverse): ga:eventCategory!~.*,ga:eventAction!~.*,ga:eventLabel!~.*

Either data is completely dropped in GA not being able to get to know the impact or this error message is a false positive. Any thoughts to check if there are more options to investigate?

Kind regards
Mike
