Event reports: Where to find custom metrics?

I've created a custom metric via: Admin -> Property -> Custom Definitions -> Custom Metrics -> NEW CUSTOM METRIC.

My understanding was that this is the way to pass a custom variable from an event into my GA reports so I can do my own segmentation. What's firing the event is a tracking pixel in a marketing email template. The pixel call begins: <img src="http://www.google-analytics.com/collect..." />

All the required parameters are present in my query string. In addition, it contains newCustomMetric=123. Now I've tested opening this email many times, and GA is recording the hits in my events report. However, where in the report can I find "newCustomMetric"? I think I've looked everywhere and don't see it.

Unless things have changed I believe you can only use custom metrics in custom reports, in most cases you can take a standard report and customize it by adding standard metrics or removing current metrics, you can also add custom metrics the same way you would add a standard or built in metric native to GA.

You may want to take into account scope when you add in a custom metric otherwise you could get unexpected results.

If not familar with scope check out this article it helped me when I started out http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2016/11/30/understanding-scope-google-analytics-reporting/
