Email vs Direct Referrers

Hi there,

I just found out that some of the traffic to our website coming from emails, is showing up as direct traffic. The same landing page (one URL & tracking code) shows up as both Direct channel and Email - this happened with several pages.

Can someone help me how to make sure they all end up in the Email group?

Thanks!

Els

Hi Gordon,

Have you built custom URLS? if not I would use this the build a URL for your email campaign https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en

Once this has been built, implement your new URL in the email campaigns and you should be able to see traffic from the Source and medium moving forwards.

Cheers
Funmi

Hi Funmi,

Thanks for your reply. Yep, that's been done already. The problem is that some of the referrals end up as an Email channel and some as a Direct one. Eg. this landing page (/index.php?section=private_group_travel&id=182482?utm_source=email) shows up in both channels and I've only used this URL with the tracking code (http://worldexpeditions.co.uk/index.php?section=private_group_travel&id=182482%3?utm_source=email-te...

Hope you can explain more, thanks in advance!
