Date range changes from today to custom

We monitor our ecommerce graph all day for 'today'. I have to change the date range every morning to 'today' as it automatically changes to 'custom' as soon as I click apply.

Can I keep 'today' as the date range, so I don't have to manually change it every day?

Hi Harry :-)

I'm not able to test this atm, however you should be able to over the next couple of days.
Select the date range that you want it set to via the drop down "today"
and then bookmark it.

If you then access analytics via that bookmark, it should in theory automatically set it to the current days date each time.

As mentioned though, you will have to test it.. eg set it today and save it and then test it tomorrow when the date has changed to see if it
sets the date range correctly via the bookmark.

Hi guys,

I don't think a bookmark will work. This is how the end of the reporting URL looks like: %3F_u.date00%3D20160124%26_u.date01%3D20160124/.

So it means the date is visible in the reporting URL. And if you bookmark it, tomorrow you will be looking at today's data.

What about using the Google Analytics API and Google Analytics add-on:
- https://developers.google.com/analytics/solutions/google-analytics-spreadsheet-add-on?hl=en

Another affordable solution is Supermetrics: http://supermetrics.com/

However, the first option is FREE.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Thanks Paul K - hadnt considered that re the date in the url

There used to be a seamonkey script that did this however from memory it stipped working a couple of years ago and stopped being maintained.

What i did find after a bit of a look about (not tested this) .. however there are no issues listed for it..
browser extension that will do it for you - does require a little setup (links in the github blurb to the original
post/instructions etc)

Great suggestion Bronwyn!

In general if you want to monitor certain numbers (KPIs) I recommend to use external tools, where you can show your key stats in a dashboard that automatically refreshes. It could be as "simple" as using Google sheets or even building complete dashboards in Klipfolio, Tableau or any other suitable application.

But your suggestion fits this case perfectly. :-)

Best,
Paul

Thank you so much for your replies Bronwyn & Paul.

I tried the chrome extension but it didn't seem to do anything, for me anyway. Once I'd entered the portion of GA code as requested, it just sat there.

It's not such a big deal though so I'll continue changing the date until maybe I have more time to investigate.
