Hello- I have few queries regarding dimension metric combination, please assist me with these.

1. As per google, if dimension and metric are from different scopes then it would be an invalid combination if so, why? Also many of the GA reports, like all pages report has page title which is hit level dimension combined with sessions or new users ( which is user level metrics) . Please explain this
2.Can predefined metric have user level or session level scope then why only hit or product level scope is option for custom metrics
3. Also according to me the metric can only be hit level, how can it be user or session level, once metrics have hit count then it can be segmented by user level or session level for required dimension, if wrong please explain
4. How to know valid metric dimension combination for custom reports? Moreover, if we can do the same using segments (applying dimension and metric level filters) and select required dimension and metric to get the same report then why is it required?

Hi Vidit,

They are not typically combine-able because it really would not make sense in most cases.

You can find valid configurations here:

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/core/dimsmets

Metrics are not all hit, e.g. average session duration, etc.

Hope that helps...
