Changed calculation of unique pageviews

I collate Google analytics data for our website that I include for a report that I send out on a monthly basis. The way that pageviews and unique pageviews are calculated seems to have changed in the past month. For example when I downloaded the data for February 2017, in March there were 39,711 unique pageviews. When I looked at the same data today there were 87,962 unique pageviews.

Why has there been such a dramatic change in the number of unique pageviews? Has the way in which this is calculated changed?

Is there a way to make the new data comparable to the old data without re-downloading it? We have data going back several years.

Thank you for your help,
