Bug with analytics (today's data changes depending on start date of query)?

I am seeing a very strange behavior with something I have looked at for a long time. In Audience Overview if I set the start date to January 2nd 2016 or later everything is OK. However, if I set the date to January 1st 2016 (which is my default and which I look at almost every day), the number of sessions reports FOR TODAY drops by about 80% (and way lower than I would have anticipated).

If I merely switch the start date again to January 2nd 2016 or later (no other change) I see a more reasonable figure.

This only started happening today.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Hi @MarkWill890,

Does GA apply sampling on your report? I've seen this situation when there is sampling on the report. Also, please avoid selecting the current day while preparing your reports because there is data processing latency(up to 48 hours depending on your traffic) in GA.

I hope this helps.
