Branches and Merges in Goal Funnel?

I am new to Google Analytics and I having trouble with my first goal.  Here is my setup:

 https://goo.gl/photos/txjj6VBE4K83yZ659

Even though I went through the flow, Im still seeing a zero completion rate.  Check out the graph below...

https://goo.gl/photos/9CRmxkG7anqfqhFq8

The modal you are seeing is the details for the fallout of the "Subscribe" step.  Note that Analytics is calling a navigation from Subscribe to Membership-checkout a funnel exit. That doesnt make sense because the membership-checkout is AFTER the subscribe step in the goal funnel.  Im guessing it has something to do with alternative flows through the funnel. I.e...

Our users can go through two flows:

1. Home...Coaches....Membership Levels...Checkout...Confirm

OR

2. Home...Subscribe...Checkout...Confirm

So how do I set up a funnel that will handle this situation?

Or am I way off.

Please help!

Thanks!

Hi Pete,

You don't need the goal completion URL as the last step in the funnel (just in the destination).

Your operator of "equals to" could also be problematic if you ever have parameters and if the trailing slash is not always present.

In order to handle different conversion paths you can do this a couple of different ways:

1. create a duplicate view and have the funnel constructed differently in each view

2. Change the goal operator to RegEx and set up multiple pages for each step by separating with a pipe |

In your case step two could be /subscribe/|/coaches/

If you feel the goal is not tracking you should look in the content reports to see if you are getting pageviews for the completion location. (You may have been filtered out by your agency or an IP filter that was applied.)

Lastly, you should define a goal value for this unless you are using ecommerce.

Hope that helps.

Best,

It does help some Theo, thank you.

I removed the last funnel step as you suggested so its not duplicate of the destination.

I am getting pageviews for all the locations in the funnel.  See below.

Im suspected its the parameters that appear after the "page name" in the funnel steps sometimes (e.g. "/membership-checkout/?level=1") so I switched the destination (and funnel steps) to use RegEx as seen here:

Im no RegEx expert but a google article told me that my setup works like "contains" for the destination and all the steps.

The good news is, as you can see in the link above, is that when I test the funnel for the last seven days, I see my one test conversion.  I was seeing zero before these changes change.

But the mystery deepens.  Why and I still seeing zero completions (and "exits" like the ones highlighted below) on the funnel visualization?

Hmm....:/

Please more help?

P.s. Ill define a goal value later (as the various subscriptions they can purchase on the "subscription" or "pick a level" page are different prices. Hope that's ok.

... oh, AND the Goal Flow DOES seem to be catching the completed goal but there are no steps between home page and the destination! See below:

Hi Pete,

I think you're on the right track. Anything that appeared after your trailing / before would have disqualified it as a goal completion or as a funnel step because of the exact match. Goals are not retroactive so you wont have a conversion until a new one happens. If you are not blocked by IP, try another test in incognito mode and see if it populates.

Funnel Visualization is a flawed report that is not retroactive so you can only look at it with dates moving forward from when you made the change (in contrast to Goal Flow). I generally may peek at Funnel Viz on occasion but I use Goal Flow for analysis.

Regarding the goal flow report, I would let your data populate a little here and see what happens. You may also want to increase the detail level.

Hi Theo - so I've pushed a test transaction through and the good news is that I'm seeing it on the Goal Flow and the Funnel Visualization report. The bad news is that the Goal Flow still only shows two steps (the entry step and the goal completion step):. See images below:
