Audience Overview: City Trends

Hello,

And thanks in advance for those that respond.

One of my accounts has noticed in her reports that 'sessions' in her local market (where she primarily draws traffic from) is slowly decreasing while traffic from another market ( a larger city just outside of her local market) has been gaining traffic.  This trend concerns her and I am having trouble trying to figure out as to why this is happening.  She doesn't seem to notice a drop off in new leads generated from her online campaign, but is concerned at this trend. Has anyone had similar experience?

Appreciatively,

-Ray

Hi Ray,

the apparent city in Analytics is really dependent on the actual IP of the user and through which gateways he enters the net. Try the online tool [1] from different locations to assess where Analytics thinks you are located to get a sense of the relevant accuracies.

If your campaigns are from AdWords consider to (1) restrict location options in campaign settings to 'People in my targeted location' and (2) try to get finer geolocation by targeting single postal codes, city regions etc. See [2] for what's available in your geographical region of interest.
