Hi,

I have installed filters as instructed at https://www.quantable.com/ga-filter/spam-filter.php

My questions are

1. How effective they are ? will they COMPLETLY stop spam referrals ?

2. How do i remove historical spam

Thanks

Hi Jack,

1. If you configure correctly the hostname filter then it will be very effective. But filters will stop future hits only.

2. To get a clean view of your historical data you will need an advanced segment using the same logic from the filters. You can find here instructions on how to do it:

Hope it helps,

I have create Master view and unfiltered view. I am not sure where should i apply the advanced segment described in https://www.ohow.co/ultimate-guide-to-removing-irrelevant-traffic-in-google-analytics/#3-cleaning-th...

Should i apply advanced segment in Master view or unfiltered view,

You should use it in the view that you want to analyze and has spam(usually the master view). Segments are not permanent so you can apply them to any view without altering the data like filters.

In general, you will use the view where you apply your filters, goals, segements etc. It is a best practice to always have view without filters in Google Analytics. It is useful to check if your filters are working as expected and most importantly as a backup.
