Spike in Facebook referral traffic

My site had a spike in m.facebook.com referral traffic in the last 24 hours on the home page. It's a local news site and we usually have under 100 viewers on our home page. We've had more than 2,500 at any given moment in the last 24 hours. We've been going through every post on Facebook trying to figure out where it's coming from, because it means we have a broken link somewhere. We post about once an hour, so there's a lot to go through.

Or it means something glitchy is happening. I've read a little about ghost referrals, but don't really understand much about that.

Any thoughts on how to track it down would be appreciated!

Sounds like a 'bot'...you can check the following dimensions to see if anything consistent appears in the data from that source (click into the source, then select these as the secondary dimension):
browser/browser version
city/country
service provider
hostname
landing page
