Referral spam with correct hostname

Hi all,

Up till now I have been using a hostname filter to remove referral spam from my accounts, but from about 2 weeks ago I've started seeing spam with the correct hostname pop up! It has all new users and 100% bounce rate every time and are called things like 'free video tool' and 'keywords monitoring your sucess'. Anyone else seen this and have an idea how to get rid of them?

Thanks,

Mirissa

Hi Mirissa,

The hostname can be faked in the payload when the spammers are sending the spam hits to GA using the measurement protocol. Spambots are collecting the hostnames so spammers can send hits with a valid hostname.
Please check this excellent article about removing GA spam:

Hope this helps.
