Referral Domain is not diplaying

Hi, everyone,

I have the following problem.

The referral traffic we're sending to a client is not displaying in their analytics.

I've absolutely no idea what causes that.

If anyone could think of anything that might cause this please let me know.

Thank you in advance

Hi Jannik :-)
Are you referring traffic from a https site to a http site?
If so, this traffic will be seen as direct by default

You could use campaign tagging on the links or add a meta referrer tag to your site pages (though im not sure of the tags compatibility with all browsers)
More info on the different tag values available in the following article
https://moz.com/blog/meta-referrer-tag

Apart from that, are there any redirects occurring on the clients site that may be stripping or changing the referral info

I managed to solve this problem by using Google Campaign links together with bit.ly (or goo.gl) redirection services.

  • Generally the user will not notice bit.ly is being used You get a neutral way of measure things with open information, just add a + sign to the URL (like for example http://goo.gl/3xeKVE+). Latter you can use bit.ly value for invoicing

  • You can track links by 4 different parameters instead of tracking just by domain, and that's very useful to manage advertising campaigns.

Hi, Bronwyn,

thank you for your reply!

Yes, we are referring from https to http.
