Hello All,

I am using Analytics.js for my website. and below is the code:

<script>
(function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
(i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
})(window,document,'script','https://www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

ga('create', 'UA-xxxxxxxx-x', 'auto');
ga('send', 'pageview');

</script>

The problem is Analytics won;t allow me to add URLs in Referral Exclusion List it give error:
These settings only work with the analytics.js version of the tracking code. If you’re using the ga.js version, configure these settings in your code. If you’re transitioning to analytics.js from ga.js, customize these settings to match your previous configuration for data continuity.

As per my code in website I am using analytics.js.

Can anybody help?

Hi Dinkar,

My issue is solved.
Further, I have checked your website however it;s not containing Analytics code.

Solution of my question: You can't add until you have edit rights in Analytics. I was working with Agency and client provide Read and Analysis rights to me. Now I can add after having all privileges.

If you aren;t able to add the sites then I would suggest to do with .htaccess code. You can take reference from here.

Hope this helps!

Hi Dinakar,, sorry you are having issues :-)

- Can you pls confirm that you have tried logging out and cleared browser cookies and cache.
- That the red + Add Referral Exclusion button is visible
- You have edit permissions at the Property level

Also what browser type and version are you using?

eta if your Property ID is UA-61530761-1, then yes, the tracking is there, it is in an external script tag:

Hi Bronwyn

I have Read /Analyse /Edit access to this GA Account
We have cleared cookies in my browser and still the spam referral traffic
exist. I am using Chrome browser.

I want to remove an URL its traffic and its Ecommerce Share to actual
sources which they contribute to, but I am unable to find a solution.
(I am having Admin Access to this account)

Regards
Dinakar

Hello Dinkar,

Please check your code: view-source:www.countryoven.com is not containing UA code, however your blog is having analytics code. view-source:http://www.countryoven.com/blog/ (Line number 69),

First have that code in entire site.

Hope this helps!

Using the Referral Exclusion List is not recommended for dealing with spam referral data.
It does not remove the visits, it simply changes the visits to direct instead of referral.

Also you cant change/correct the past data that has already been collected within the reports
in manner of speaking

What you can do is create and apply filters to correct the issue going forward, and in some instances create
and use segments so as to look at past data without the rubbish in it (but you cant actually remove the past data
via filtering etc)

There is an excellent article by Analytics Edge
It explains the different types of spam data that can occur and the different types of filters that need to be used to
combat it
http://help.analyticsedge.com/spam-filter/definitive-guide-to-removing-google-analytics-spam/

There are also instructions on that page (step 4) that explain how to setup the necessary segments

Thanks
Bronwyn

eta and yes as per @KT comment, the blog does contain code for a different Property UA-68511500-1
to what is in the external script file on the other site pages.

However the way to deal with spam data remains the same. Do not use the Referral Exclusion List.

We have 2 different Properties for Blog and Website.

I am referring to website referral traffic. As mentioned by Bronwyn we already have GA Tag in external script file

Thanks

@Dinakar

Is it spam data that is an issue
or
data is being attributed to an incorrect source?
If its data being attributed to an incorrect source. are the visitors
coming via specific urls that have campaign tagging parameters on them?
Or are they just referrals from another website?
