I have a question about Referrals section in the analytics.

Google Analytics is not showing referrals from http://www.carlsonwagonlit.co.uk

Here is a screenshot of my Referrals filed http://prntscr.com/fk4k9q .

And google tag manager code http://prntscr.com/fk4l27 .

The website in question is http://responsiblebusiness.carlsonwagonlit.com/ .

I would like to know possible reasons why is this happening and what can be done about it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi :-)

Assuming you have a View that does not have any filters blocking your activity,
what happens when you do a test of the traffic moving from one site to the other,

what shows in the Real Time > Traffic Sources report as the Medium/Source?

Also how visitors move between the websites? Is there a link somewhere on the

page of http://www.carlsonwagonlit.co.uk that i can use to do a test via browser?

Thanks:-)

Hi Bronwyn V,

The site is this one https://www.carlsonwagonlit.com/content/cwt/global/en/home.html  (not the co.uk) and the link(s) are here http://prntscr.com/fkf0vy .

This is what shows up in the ga http://prntscr.com/fkf17n .

It seems that the client serves the site ( https://www.carlsonwagonlit.com/content/cwt/global/en/home.html ) over both http and https (site A). The site  http://responsiblebusiness.carlsonwagonlit.com/  in which I'm tracking referrals is http (site B).

Will site B tracks referrals from http sites if we make it secure (served over https)?

Hi :-)

https to https = should send referral info

http to http  = should send referral info

http to https = should send referral info

https to http = no wont send referral info

to track https to http:

If you use custom campaign tagging on the url then it should pass whatever info you put into the tags as the medium/source etc.. make sure to test that though

other alternatives would be to either change the site B to https too

or

use an internal redirection script to send visitors to a http page on the https site before then passing them thru to the http website

Thank you very much for providing this answer. It has been extremely helpful. Is there an explanation as to why GA does not track referral information from https to http?

It's not analytics related.. its security related to do with https
https does not pass referral info to a site that is http, because http is not secure.
https can be worked around eg passing ppl thru a non http page etc before they leave the site
but it has to be configured specifically on the https site to do that..
