Another site using same GA site ID as ours

I have recently created a brand new GA account. The tracking code has never been installed on any site before, and starting last week the account/profile is reporting data. I am assuming that someone else is using the same tracking ID on their site.

Is there a way to block this? I assume I have to add a filter to my profile to only include traffic to hostname

It is likely referral spam where they guess as the tracking id (and send it to everyone's) and they never actually visited your site.

Yes, a valid hostname filter should be a default setup step.
