multiple 404 errors when trying to view pages

Hi,

I'm getting multiple 404 errors when viewing landing pages in GA. In my reports I should see:
 /
/en
/en/services

But instead I see this :

/example.com/
/example.com/en

...which is producing multiple 404 errors. When I try to view the pages, I'll see: example.com/example.com/en in my browser. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Arthur

Are they indexing within search engines like that or just when you click through on them from GA?

Here is a couple of suggestions:

1. Reference your property settings within GA. How is the default URL configured? Is there a trailing slash or incorrect domain? If so, remove it and add the absolute URL (no trailing slash).

2. Trailing slashes might continue to be an issue for you. If this is the case then we'll need to add a filter to exclude them entirely. Try the first recommendation and let me know if it works before replying back.

Let me know.

Hi Tyler,

Thanks for the help. I see them only in GA reports.

1. The default url in Property Level is configured as: www.example.com

However in web browsers, our website appears as: example.com

If I remove the www. in the default url setting, should that resolve the issue?

I also noticed someone else created a Sub-Domain Filter with the following settings:

Custom Filter > Advanced
Field A > Hostname: (.*)
Field B > Request URI: (.*)
Output to > Request URI: /A$1B$1

When searching online, I noticed many sub-domain filters examples where the / is not included. They suggest: Output to > Request URI: A$1B$1. Could this be the issue too?

Thanks,

Arthur

Hey Arthur,

Update the default URL without the (www), so the naked version of the URL. Let's see how that takes after you implement it.

Was that filter already added to the GA account or just something you came across?

Let me know.

Hi Tyler,

Thanks, I'll do that. It's something that was already added previously...

Thanks for your help again Smiley Happy

Hi Tyler,

It seems like I still have the same issue.

Could it be the sub-domain filter that is causing the additional /example.com/ errors?

Thanks,

Arthur

ok, what is your "All Page" report recording?

Are you seeing multiples of the same pages, just different URL structures? Or is this just associated with your home page.

Let me know as we'll need to chat about updating your filters.

Also, let me know how your default page URL is configured within your "Property" settings as well as the specific "View" (default page) setting that you are focused on.
