Struggling with filters

I have created a filtered view in my GA account for one of my properties. The filter is set to include only  traffic only to sub directories that begins with */example*. I expect that all the traffic coming to my domain should be filtered to that particular subdirectory of my website. But when I go in reports, and go to behavior; Site Content, it shows other pages as well that do not begin with /example. The pages show up in other parts of reports as well.

Please help, why is it so?

Can you give the screenshot of the filter that is setup?

Also filters don't work retro actively on previous data. It will only work on future incoming data.
