I would like to get some help/advice on setting up filters to exclude a large number of ips

Hi Community,

I have a large list of ips I would like to exclude for GA. These ips pass through my site to reach an affiliate marketing site they access through a link and will never convert.

I tried to setup ip filters with the below expressions however I feel I have stuffed this up as traffic level remains the same.

^54\.252\.79\.172$|^54\.250\.253\.236$|^54\.248\.220\.44$|54\.251\.31\.140$|^54\.255\.254\.236$|^54\.251\.31\.140$\^117\.120\.16\.131$|^117\.120\.18\.133$|^117\.120\.16\.139$

This might not be the best approach - what if they have dynamic IP adresses?

Since they come through a specific link, isn't there something in the URL that could tell you so? Maybe a campaign parameter, or if they have to pass you their affiliate number?

Hi :-)
For sake of readability and ease of use, I would create two exclude filters

one with the following regex

^117\.120\.((16\.13(1|9))|(18\.133))$

and the other:

^54\.((248\.220\.44)|(250\.253\.236)|(251\.31\.140)|(252\.79\.172)|(255\.254\.236))$

Keep in mind, filters are not retroactive and will not 'clean' historical data already processed into the reports

and do not apply this to  your default All Website Data View.
If not already done so, create a new View and apply the filters to it...this will track data going forward and it will be 'clean' due to the filters.

This way too, the All Website Data always contains a full unedited copy of all site data, should it

be needed at any stage for reporting purposes
