GA - Pulling the TRUE traffic source from UTM's

Let's say someone else is sending traffic to my site and they are using UTM codes; but, I believe that the "source" traffic they are defining via UTM is actually coming from a different source.  Is there anyway that I can pull the TRUE source of their referral traffic in GA?

The UTM code, if used correctly, overwrites all the original attribution data so nothing is retained there. I was wondering if the referral path dimension might give you something but I suspect this will merely report '(not set)'.

It just gives me "not set".  Very strange that GA would not retain this data though, sucks for me!
