Finding Retained vs. Resurrected Users? Impossible with Google Analytics?

I'm looking to break down our Monthly Active Users into retained, new, and resurrected.

For April, New = users who began using our product sometime in April

But the other categories are more complicated. Essentially:

Retained = April MAUs who also had at least one session in March.

Resurrected = April MAUs with session dates before 3/1 that DID NOT use the app between 3/1 and 3/31.

Does anyone know of a way to break things down like this?

I can see April MAUs with session dates prior to 4/1, but can't break them down based on their activity in March.

Hi Marissa,

The Cohort reports will help a little:

That said, you will probably want to use custom dimensions and pass new, resurrected and retained into GA.   This would require user log in and some logic and coding to retrieve and set these values.

More on custom dimensions:

Hope that helps Smiley Happy
