Filters vs. segments

I'm trying to filter traffic to my website that leaves the website by clicking on a specific button on the site and going to a specific URL that is not part of the site. I've been trying to use the predefined filter for "Excluding" "Traffic to a Hostname" "That Contains"  and then the URL without the "HTTPS://". However, this does not appear to work. What am I doing wrong?

Hi @Chris A,

I am assuming you want to exclude users who click on the link (on your website) and go to other website.
For that, you need to track link clicks as events or virtual pageviews.
Check here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1136920?hl=en

Then you can create a segments or view filters to exclude that event.

Let me know, if you are looking for something else.

Thanks,
Ritwik
