Filters for parameters passing PII in old links?

With regard to email links passing PII (email address), will old email links containing PII be considered a violation? For instance, today (May 25) a customer clicks through an email from September - that email contained an email address in a URL parameter.

Today's email send doesn't include PII, but we have no way to retroactively change old/existing email links. The information here: https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/6389382?hl=en states that URLs saved to a user's hard drive in the format url=file%3A%2F%2Fexamplesite.com%2Fpaget%2Fredacted@example.com will not constitute a violation. Are old email links considered under this condition?

Hi :-)

The page you are referring to is in relation to adwords. GA has its own seperate TOS and rules regarding PII that must be adhered to with or without the use of adwords added into the equation.
Section 7 Privacy
https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/us.html

Regarding past data, not sure what to do about that.

Currently, rather than using filters to filter out the PII, use the option on each view settings page to exclude one or more URL query parameters.

To the best of my knowledge, this prevents the removed data from being sent to google for processing, whereas filters act to remove data from your reports after the data gets sent/processed.

For further help specific to adwords policies, best place to ask would be on the Adwords Community
