Exclude Parameters vs Advanced Filter

Our inbound URLs include a cid=XXXXXXX parameter that I want to capture as a Custom Dimension but also exclude from my reporting.

I set up an Advanced Filter to grab the XXXXXXX value and store it as a custom dimension.  I let that run for a while until data started coming in. It worked.

So then went to the View setting and set the Exclude URL Query Parameter to exclude cid. However, while the cid parameter no longer appears in my reports, I am no longer capturing the XXXXXXX value.

Is there a way to accomplish both of these?

Thank you for your insights.

Hi @Timothy l :-)

The Exclude URL Query Parameter setting gets applied before any filters get applied.

Therefore, I would remove the Exclude URL Query Parameter option,

and instead create another filter to strip that query parameter from the urls,

and then make sure it is assigned a filter order after the Advanced filter that grabs the cid value and stores it as a custom dimension, since filters are applied in the order they are assigned.
