Best practice to exclude/filter staging site?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to understand the best way to filter my client's staging site out of my Master View reports.

Would this be the right way to do it?

1. Admin and select my Master View

2. Filters

3. Create 'Custom' filter to 'Exclude' 'Campaign Source' --> staging.mysite.org

Pros and Cons?

I'm also seeing revenue from staging which is another issue. Should I figure out 'why' first and then filter out? Or is it ok to filter right away as I have my other views to check that out (Test and Unfiltered).

Thanks

Hi Rafael,

I would recommend excluding this specific hostname: staging.mysite.org

1. Admin --> Master View

2. Filters

3. Create 'Custom' filter to 'Exclude' 'Hostname' --> ^staging\.mysite\.org$

This should work well.

Cheers,

Taavi

Another thing to consider is creating a second view, which includes the staging site - this is can be useful when troubleshooting, testing etc

Great!

One last question, using those regex parameters for 'hostname', will they affect in any way the main domain?

Thanks again.

Rafael, you're right! Actually, I made a mistake. I was pretty sleepy while I was writing my last post. I fixed this regex and now it should work properly.

Thanks for questioning! Smiley Happy
