upgrading to Universal analytics and GTM

A client wants to upgrade to universal Analytics and install Tag Manager so they can track events without using code.  Is there a recommended process to do this?   First upgrade to universal and then install GTM?  Or install GTM and use it to upgrade to universal.

Can anyone shed any light or share their experience with upgrading and installing GTM?

Thanks!

Hi June,

Here you can find official guides:

1) How to install GTM on your site: https://support.google.com/tagmanager/answer/6103696?hl=en&ref_topic=3441530

2) How to install Google Analytics via GTM: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6163791?hl=en

3) How to implement event tracking via GTM: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6164470?hl=en

You should first add GTM on your site and then install Google Analytics via GTM. Just make sure that double-tracking does not happen if you implement Google Analytics via GTM. Here you can find an article that helps to go through this process safely: http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2015/07/16/safely-migrating-to-google-tag-manager/

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.
