WordPress and GA

We are moving our newspaper website to WordPress.  This is an opportunity to strengthen our analytics infrastructure. I want to make sure I can do things such as A/B testing and campaign tags within the site.

Do I need to pay attention to this on the Theme or PlugIn level? And what are some best practices for WP & GA integration?

Thank you.

Hi :-)
Usually campaign tagging would not be used internally within a site.
Sometimes WP themes will have an admin option to add js code to the head section, other times they will have an option specifically to add the GA tracking code.
I prefer and usually recommend a plugin to add the tracking code, there are a number of good, free plugins available from and they usually offer useful configuration options such as tracking file downloads, blocking visits of certain user types etc.
