Trying to understand the fundamental differences between the two versions of code. Is there anywhere or anyone that can summarise this?

Hi,

You mean the difference between the ga.js code and the analytics.js code?

"The analytics.js library is the latest JavaScript library for Google Analytics designed to take advantage of all the new features of the Universal Analytics platform."

ga.js is a legacy library, it is recommended to use analytics.js.

There is a comparison of the tracking codes in this document:

https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/reference/gajs-analyticsjs

Let me know if you have more questions.
