Updated Web Address - Analytics No Longer Tracking

Hello!

I made a recent change (2 days ago) to the URL structure of a site I manage.  Previously the sites url structure was http://www.example.com.  It has now been upgraded to a more secure site so the URL is now set to https://example.com.

Since the update occurred, Google Analytics is no longer tracking visitors to the site.  I made sure to follow the steps outlined in this knowledge base article and updated the property accordingly to https://example.com.

After numerous attempts of refreshing the site and loading it on different devices, Google has yet to report traffic to the site.

To ensure that I have everything installed properly, I went ahead and created another property within Google Analytics with the new URL structure and it was able to recognize me instantly through the Real Time stats within Google Analytics.

To further ensure my installation was working properly I also installed the Chrome Extension, Tag Assistant (by Google) and it fully recognizes that Google Analytics is installed on the site.

I am at a loss as to what to do as I don't want to destroy all my historical tracking data other than to set the site back to http://www.example.com or maybe even https://www.example.com.

Look forward to any thoughts on this!

Thank you!

Shawn

Hey Shawn,

Have you checked for a view level filter for traffic only to the hostname " http://www.example.com " ?

Cheers,
Arjun

Also, if traffic is showing in another "property", then it means the code on the site is for that other property, and not the first one you want the data in. The -1, at the end of your UA-xxxxxxx-1 id, tells Google which property to send the traffic to. So you might want to check if you've added the exact code, of the property you want to see traffic in.

Thank you Arjun! Found that a filter was in place that only was looking for a valid hostname of www.example.com. Appreciate the help!
