Tracking inside a flash object?

Hello,

Our company is creating some online courseware using Articulate Storyline 2, and uploading it to our domain on TalentLMS. We are interested in tracking some actions inside the course (which is packaged as a flash/html5 object) such as time spend on each slide, quiz questions answered, and certain marker clicks. So far I've been able to plant the UA code and get some very basic "visited" counts. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Erez

Hi Erez
There's no official flash support in GA like this.
If you want the tracking you're looking for, you'll have to use the Google Analytics API and/or the measurement protocol and implement it yourself.
I'd recommend you ask the software provider for suggestions on what others have used.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Dave

Erez,

I agree with Dave on contacting the vendor, however there are some resources to consider in the mean time:

1) GTM and Flash integration options: https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/devguide#actionscript

2) Classic GA had a library for flash integration. The GA for Flash libraries (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/other/flashTrackingIntro?hl=en) are stuck basically in the last decade. There is an unofficial library someone has created for Universal here: https://github.com/zwetan/as3-universal-analytics. The old stuff for Flash (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/other/flashTrackingSetupFlash) and Flex (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/other/flashTrackingSetupFlex) are still usable, but only produce Classic GA hits which you probably don't want to go back to using, so they're not really an option unless other routes aren't an option.

Hope this helps!
