Tracking UTM codes for multiple campaigns after age verification

Hi all,

 

We'll be running several campaigns for a client in the alcohol industry, which requires age verification on the landing page.

 

At present there's only one  active campaign which is properly tagged with UTM codes.

On click, the custom URL redirects to the age gate page, and once age verification is confirmed, custom URL is restored.

 

Before the age gate:

example.com/landing/?utm_source=site.com&utm_media=cpm&utm_media=ad1&utm_campaign=xmas

 

On click, a landing page with age gate is served:

example.com/landing/

After the age gate, custom URL is back on:

example.com/landing/?utm_source=site.com&utm_media=cpm&utm_media=ad1&utm_campaign=xmas

 

We are getting data in GA for campaign, source, etc. for that single campaign.

 

Trouble is when we start running several campaigns with different UTM codes, and multiple custom URLs after the age gate.

Not sure how the redirects will work, and how this data will flow to Google Analytics.

 

Any recommendations welcome.

Is that the parameter is stripped by server side redirect?
If so, please try using hash parameters.

 

for example:
https://www.example.com/index.html#utm_source=debug&utm_medium=debug&utm_campaign=debug

The UTM parameters you set will stick to the URL to which they are appended. They will not be attached to the following URLs unless you intentionally do so.

However, why your source/campaign data is not flowing to GA is a mystery for me! Can you provide details?

Indeed, it's a server side redirect. We'll test it with hash parameters and see if they are passed to GA.
