Track Visits from multiple URLs in Segmented Email Blast?

I have an email blast going to multiple mail list segments. The link in each email for a particular segment will have a unique URL.

Example:

Segment 1: http://www.example.com/link1

Segment 2: http://www.example.com/link2

Segment 3: http://www.example.com/link3

Management wants all of the segment links to land on the same page:

http://www.example.com/emaillandingpage

So, www.example.com/link1, www.example.com/link2 and www.example.com/link3 will all redirect to www.example.com/emaillandingpage

Question is, how can I track how many visits go to www.example.com/emaillandingpage from:

Segment 1: http://www.example.com/link1

Segment 2: http://www.example.com/link2

Segment 3: http://www.example.com/link3

So, I use Google Tag Manager instead?

Regards,

John

Hi John,

Definitely use GTM if you can but it's not needed for this.  What you want is custom campaign parameters, AKA utm parameters.   More on custom campaigns here:

https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033863?hl=en

Basically you'll want something like this ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=July+Savings&utm_content=link1

where utm_content differentiates which link is clicked.   Very important that you're redirects also pass all the parameters to the final landing page as well!

Best,

Track Visits from multiple URLs in Segmented Email Blast?

Thank you Theo,

Thinking that I won't need redirects.

All I need to do is create the email landing page: www.example.com/emaillandingpage

Once that is done, when we segment the list (3 categories, A, B, C) all I need to do is have 3 links with unique content codes UTM codes like:

www.example.com/emaillandingpage?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=July+Savings&ut...

www.example.com/emaillandingpage?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=July+Savings&ut...

www.example.com/emaillandingpage?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=July+Savings&ut...

This should work, correct?

Regards,

John

Yes, that will work fine as far was tracking. Any other personalization and messaging needs to be considered but that could be driven by the value in utm_content.

Best,

Theo
