You can use the Click Text variable as a custom dimension value, yes. However, you wouldn't fire this CD in a page view tag since the Click Text variable is exposed on clicks, not on page views. I suggest you create a GA event tag based on a trigger that will fire on the click event in question. Then you implement the CD in this event tag.

Let me know if it makes sense.

Thanks Rodrigues.

My problem is illustrated more clearly here:

You know there are auto event variables in Google Tag Manager Like 'Click Text'

My question is can i use this ''Click Text' as custom dimention in GA with help of GTM?

The scsenario is this:

I have a google analytics basic pageview GTM tag which fires on all pages.
It is working as usual.

There is a outbound link on my page which directs users to another website.

I have created a Custom dimention in GA with index no.3

When I am configuring my basic google analytics pageview GTM tag with the built in variable directly 'Click Text' as dimention value and index no.3 custom dimention is not poplulating with the 'Click Text' value.

But in the preview and debug mode in gtm the 'Click Text' value is there.

Do i have to create an auto varible first which will poplulate the 'click text value' and then use it inplace of 'Click Text'?

then how to do it?

Why is that?

When using Such as GA-UA number I have also used a contant varible first and then it is working as custom dimention.

My question is why I cannot use 'Click Text' variable directly?

Then if i have to configure a new auto event variable what are the steps?

Am i right if i do the steps?

New Varible name:Capturing Click Text Auto Variable
Variable type:Element Url

After that then if i use this new 'Capturing Click Text Auto Variable' instead of using directly'Click Text' will it works theoritically?

Thanks

Click Text is exposed on GTM Click event. You are using a tag that is based on a GTM Page View event. This is the problem. When your GA page view tag fires, there is no Click Text information since no clicks have occurred, just a page load / page view.

You need to create a tag (likely a GA event tag) that fires when users click on the button or link in question, then within this event tag you create a custom dimension which uses the value of Click Text for this button or link.

Let me know if it makes sense.

Sure. Have a go. If you:

- Create a GA event tag
- Create a CD within this tag and use Click Text as the CD value
- Fire this GA event tag on a click trigger for the button or link in question

You should be able to make it work.
