Sessions issue with email event tracking

I've implemented email tracking using measurement protocol to track open but I've found that these 'email opens' are adding to my website sessions.

To get actual website traffic, I've had to create a segment that excludes landing pages containing (not set) to remove the effect of email tracking.

What's the best way to fix this?

Ideally, I still want the email tracking but I don't want it inflating my session count.

So I simply add '&ni=1' to my pixel hit URL?

Thanks heaps.
