Remarketing Tag - "The tag is active but we couldn't find any custom parameters."

According to the Google Tag Manager in Chrome, our remarketing tag is returning the data correctly, but there must be something wrong, because within Adwords > Shared Library > Audience it is telling us that:

"We haven't detected custom parameters for Retail (Google Analytics)"

However, when I view the source code on the page, it appears to include the correct information, and the ecomm_prodid is there - and that's what it says is missing.

If we take a sample product page on out site:

https://www.hj.co.uk/hj90-softop-original-wool-rich-socks-three-pack

and look at the source:

It seems to be OK (unless someone can spot an obvious error?), and the ecomm_prodid is showing.

Having spoken to Google Adwords support we go to the point where they said they can't help any more and don't get involved with the tag implementation as it's beyond their remit.

Is there something obvious we need to address, or can anyone point us in the right direction to get this resolved?

Thanks in advance.

It seems like you initially picked Google Analytics to run your dynamic remarketing campaign which is why you got the audience lists created for Google Analytics and the "tag details" reporting for GA custom dimensions (currently not passing anything).

Try closing the GA attrbutes from the GA account that is linked to your AW account, then try to crate a new Dynamic remarketing retail campaign.

This is what it's telling us in Google Adwords > Shared Library > Audience > Remarketing Tag - Tag Details:

Thanks for the reply Florin.

"Try closing the GA attributes from the GA account that is linked to your AW account, then try to crate a new Dynamic remarketing retail campaign." - can you explain that to me please? What do you mean by 'closing the GA attributes'?

Please check Dynamic Remarketing with Analytics.
You can find the attribute creation section here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6002231

You need to follow the instruction and close all attributes in Analytics account.

If I recreate the dynamic remarketing campaign, do i need to delete the previous one?

Hi Trisha,

The previous dynamic remarketing campaign can be deleted.

Please note that the topic above is about custom parameters and Google Analytics attributes.

If you set up a dynamic remarketing campaign using Adwords Tag (thus using custom parameters), all the dynamic remarketing campaigns (new and old ones) will be using Adwords Tag (with custom parameters).

No need to set up Remarketing tag tag for every new dynamic remarketing campaign. The Remarketing tag is set up only once during the first dynamic remarketing campaign creation. Any other dynamic remarketing campaign created afterwards will inherit the settings.

Hope this helps.
