Over the past several months, we've been receiving reports of issues caused by a hung request for ga.js or analytics.js.  The browser acts like it sent a request but no response is ever received.  IE developer tools shows a (Pending) status for and if is pasted into the Address bar, the loading symbol spins indefinitely.

So far it's only been a problem for Internet Explorer, usually version 11.  If the user has Chrome and we visit, it responds successfully (with a redirect to the GA home page, or the script if /ga.js is requested).

This is a problem because even though the GA script tag is asynchronous, if the script is never returned the onload event is blocked, which can interfere with the operation of some of our pages.  The issue is sporadic, likely affecting no more than about 1% of our visitors.  Sometimes rebooting the affected PC fixes it, but not always.  It looks like a network issue except for the fact that Chrome can connect from these same PCs.  We do not have control over the network connection, firewall, or other software installed on the customers' computers.  The affected individuals are not always on the same network or ISP.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this, where IE is unable to complete the request to or

Barring a veeery complex security policy, modern versions of IE should have no issues with SSL GA calls.
