How to track vanity URL in Google Analytics
We are using a vanity URL (for example, careers.com) on postcards that get mailed to potential job applicants. The URL, careers.com, links to a page within our website that has the longer URL (www.companyname.com/careers). Is there a way in Google Analytics to track how many people came to our website by typing careers.com into their browser? I checked the Referral report and it's not listed. Do I need to add careers.com to the tracking script in the head tag of the code?

You need to add UTM parameters on the redirected full URL of this vanity URL. See the link below how to add the UTM paramaters to the URLs.
Then you'll be able to see it on the Acquisition > All traffic > source / medium and Acquisition > Campaigns > All campaigns report.
