Google's URL builder giving Gmail users warning message??

We've been wanting more analytic data from the emails we send out, so I tried modifying my links with Google's URL Builder

Immediately after making the link changes I sent a test email and got this warning message in Gmail (Outlook was fine): Be careful with this message. It contains content that's typically used to steal personal information. Learn more

I tested again with standard links and everything was fine.

I'm worried that if I send out the email with Google's URL Builder links then many of my subscribers will see that message. I'm using a Google product... it should work with Gmail, right? What am I doing wrong?

Hey Craig, how are things?

Have you tested with different names on the parameters? I know that Gmail do contextual analysis, so depending on the names you've used, it may seem as scam.

Things are ok, thanks. Minus the URL, here are the URL Builder links I'm using.

(when I do links like this Gmail doesn't give an error)

<a href="https://website.com/anniversary/">

(when I use the following Google URL Builder links I get the Gmail error)

https://website.com/?utm_source=promo_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_anniversary_sale

https://website.com/anniversary/?utm_source=promo_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_a...

https://website.com/promotions/?utm_source=promo_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_anniversary_sale

https://website.com/shop/?catid=44&amp;utm_source=promo_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_anniversary_sale

https://website.com/contact_us/?utm_source=promo_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_anniversary_sale

https://website.com/in_stockproducts/?utm_source=promo_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_anniversary_sale

Hey Craig,

Can you make some tests and replace the words "promo" and "sales" for anything else and see if it works? or even testing with random stuff:

source=puppy
medium=sending
campaign=blackfriday

Just to see of the words are actually causing contextual block.

Other important thing, try to replace "&amp;" for the actual "&" symbol. Usually "&amp;" is used on HTML level, not directly on URL (although it can work).

I tried replacing each with puppy, sending, & blackfriday, but it kept giving me the same error. I also updated all &amp; to "&" but that didn't solve the warning either.

So after failing with those changes I tried going through the links 1 by 1. It turns out only 1 link was causing the error:

https://website.com/promotions/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=45th_anniversary...

note: i changed promo_email to newsletter AFTER testing. promo_email was not the cause

Is there any reason why that specific link would cause the warning message to occur, but all of the other links were fine?

Hey Craig, how are things?

IT's very strange indeed. Can you test another URL with some other sub-folder instead of "/promotions/"?

Also, I'd recommend to check if that page/you server/etc does not have some malware or something that may cause the warning.

This two links should help you finding that:

I finally got it working FYI. It still doesn't make sense to me why Google decided one was bad and one was good, however. Let me know if you have any insights to why below.

Google gives error with:

<h2 style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-weight: 800; line-height: 1.1; color:#000; margin-top:0;margin-bottom:8px; font-size: 28px; display: inline; font-style: italic;"><a href="https://website.com/promotions/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_ann... DETAILS & PROMOS. »</a></h2>

Google does not give error with:

<h2 style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-weight: 800; line-height: 1.1; color:#000; margin-top:0;margin-bottom:8px; font-size: 28px; display: inline; font-style: italic;"><a href="https://website.com/promotions/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=45th_anniversary_sale">Additional Promotions &raquo;</a></h2>
