Google Tracking Code Not Working

I am having trouble getting the tracking code to work properly on my site http://www.amkca.org/.  I initially set up this site as a stand-alone account - but then my client asked me to make it a sub-account of www.keratoconusinserts.com.  I added this as a sub-account - and installed the new sub-account tracking code.  I can even see it in the source code.

Unfortunately, it is not providing any data - and is giving me a "Status: Tracking Not Installed" message - then telling me it can't find it.  But I can still see that code (and no other GA tracking code) - in the source code.  I have not yet deleted the stand-alone GA account for "http://www.amkca.org/" - but I think that may be causing the problem.

Any help would be MOST appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Bryan

Please clarify - in GA there are three levels:

Account > Property > View

Are both of these set as Properties under one Account?

Actually that is answered by the code - yes they are - Looks like you've got

http://www.amkca.org/ = UA-1652018-22 (note: tag assistant says code is outside of head tag that might be a good move to make if you can)

http://www.keratoconusinserts.com/ = UA-1652018-1

Is the standalone one still collecting data or are neither?

Having an old GA account should not matter as long as the code is not on the site - it will just be an old record of data - not a bad thing to have.

There really should not be an issue with this.

You are using Wordpress for the site - to be honest most people find it a lot easier to get the GA code right with Wordpress by using a plugin like Yoast - have you tried that? takes all the pain away.

Hi Bryan,

If you've just created the new property and installed the code on the site it takes 24-48h for the data to show up in the reports and the tracking status to update.

The code looks fine on http://www.amkca.org, as David C mentioned you can move it up to the head tag

On http://www.keratoconusinserts.com you're still using the outdated classic tracking code, it is recommended to upgrade to Universal Analytics. https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/

Thank you for your response! I was finally able to track down a Google Analytics representative who showed me how to check the code using Google Tag Assistant. We could then see that the Wordpress editor I was using was automatically adding <p></p> tags inside of the GA tracking code. Needless to say, this prevented Analytics from reading the tracking code.

Once we removed those tags, the tracking code began reporting data immediately.

But thank you for your help!
