Google Site Search Requires Classic Tracking Code?

We currently have a site with years of data accumulated using the Universal Analytics tracking code. However, we want to track our internal Google Site Search within GA but it looks like it's not compatible with Universal Analytics. Is there a way we can have both Classic and Universal Tracking Code on each page without messing with the data?

Hi,
I'm tracking site search on my website using universal analytics code. You have to change in the code.

Please check example @ http://www.lovesdata.com/blog/2015/google-analytics-site-search-setup-options/

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks for the link. I'm still unsure on how to dynamically pass the keyword "analytics" in the example below.

"You just need to modify the ga('send', 'pageview'); code to something like:

analytics.js: ga('send', 'pageview', '/search?q=analytics');

 The keyword (‘analytics’ in the examples above) will need to be dynamically passed to the tracking code for each term that is searched."

Any advice?
