Facebook and Google Analytics

I set up a UTM tracking URL (using Google's URL builder) and placed it inside an app. However, it's not tracking correctly and I think it's because I need to insert a tracking link inside our Facebook page for this tracking to occur. Is that thinking correct? If so, how can I set it up inside Facebook? Thanks and I appreciate any help!

Hi Jeanelle,

Is this a mobile app?

Did I understand correctly that you've added URL with the UTM parameters to your mobile app and you're directing visitors from your mobile app to your Facebook page?

If that's true, UTM parameters won't work. You can use UTM parameters if you're directing traffic to your own website (you can't add tracking code on your facebook page). In this case, I would use Google URL shortener: https://goo.gl/

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Jeanelle,

Could you please clarify? Smiley Happy

Would you like to track people who are coming to your website from a Facebook page / app? Am I right? Where have you exactly added your URL with the UTM parameters?

Hi Taavi,

I actually want the opposite. I created a link using this: https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/campaign-url-builder/, with the URL directing to our Facebook page. The UTM link was placed inside the Settings page within one of our apps.

When I go into Google Analytics, I can't find the tracker for it at all and I'm not sure why! Maybe you can help?

Thanks,

Jeanelle
