Event Tracking

Is it possible to attach a google analytics tracking code to a document that is only accessed externally? I have PDF documents that are housed on my website at http://www.westpoint.army.mil but can only be accessed by QR codes.

These documents are a part of our Tree City USA emphasis on West Point. When a visitor is here on West Point as they pass by certain trees at or near our monuments, they can scan a QR code on the tree and read on the document information about that tree.

I have a very in depth analytics set up within the website now, which is working brilliantly, but I am at a loss on how to incorporate it to track it through Events and see how many people access the documents.

Hi :-)
Not sure if the following article is helpful to you. I havent had a chance to use it/test it.

Might be able to also incorporate it with campaign tracking on the urls in the qr codes

Great thank you!
I will try out the URL builder but I cannot use the other one as my website is pure HTML5, and I cannot put the Apache server on my web server, it is a US Government server.

From how I understand the directions, you build the URL, create a QR code and it will then be calculated through Google Analytics as a click or however you identify it.

Hi :-)
usually with url builder, someone would be accessing a page on your site then say clicking a download link in order
to access the pdf.. not directly accessing the pdf via the server.

You can tag the urls but unless ppl are being tracked as being on the website in GA to begin with. then there is nothing
for GA to track
