Event Tracking In Universal Analytics

Hi, I've got a contact page with the following email address setup as hyper link - office@spectrum-plant.com. I simply want to track any time a visitor clicks on this link to send an email. I've looked through the documentation but it's not easy to work our the settings they are all seem to apply to playing video. I know it needs to be an event of some nature but the specific code to use isn't clear.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Sophie

Hi Sophie,

You have an invalid single quote in your code at contact'.

Make sure to add the code exactly as is here:

<a href="mailto:office@spectrum-plant.com" onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'contact', 'clicked');">office@spectrum-plant.com</a>

Let me know if it works after this fix.

Hi Sophie

You need to modify your email address hyperlink as below:

<a href="mailtoSmiley Surprisedffice@spectrum-plant.com" onclick="ga('send', 'event', 'Contact', 'clicked');">Contact Us</a>

You'll see the data collected in Google Analytics under Behaviour -> Events

Let me know if you have help with it.

Hi Arnold, I've got the developer to alter the page to include the following code:

<a href="mailtoSmiley Surprisedffice@spectrum-plant.com" onclick="ga('send', 'event', ‘contact', 'clicked');">office@spectrum-plant.com</a>

However I'm not seeing any events recorded in GA. I've clicked the link several times and no joy. I've left it a good 12 hours as I thought it might be a time delay on the data appearing in GA.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Thanks
Sophie

Hi Arnold, many thanks for spotting the quote mishap - new glasses for me! It's all working fine now and events are flowing in.

Many thanks
Sophie

Hi,

We run a financial website and have traffic around 5 to 6 lacs per month and we already use analytics for tracking info. Now we need to track the author wise traffic which is not included in the standard format of GA. Also what is the way to add custom dimensions to GA using the tag manager and also without tag manager. Please help and please take into account I am not a coder.
