Event Tracking Code on landing page is not working

Hi Folks,

I add the event tracking code (red line underlying) for recording video play times on landing page but got no results. I take this Google Developer page as reference. Anyone might know what possibly is wrong in my code or the setting issue in GA?

Thanks!

 Hi!

You should use Universal Analytics if you want to track video. But you're using old Analytics and put the line from Universal Analytics. That's why it doesn't work.

Please check this link https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/

The old one https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingOverview

Hi,

You can easily debug on the website with GA debugger:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/jnkmfdileelhofjcijamephohjechhna

You can check in chrome, console tab with 'Preserve log' turned ON.

Hi @sergey_b113,

Thanks for the answer - solve the problem!

May I have a follow-up one: So the reason we're using old GA code is because it integrate with remarketing function, which the universal analytics code is not supported. What should I do about it to do remarketing in the future then?

I found reference here...

Thanks,

Jason

Hi!

You're welcome Smiley Happy

It's ok to use old and new GA on your website. So you can mix GA functions from them. Why not!

But it'll be better to start using Universal Analytics, because some functions from the old one are not supported. And it's risky to use the old one because they can stop supporting some functions at any time.

Look at https://www.google.com/analytics/tag-manager/ and the course https://analyticsacademy.withgoogle.com/course05
